Ride the Tide to Ecstatic Bliss
Dr. Charlie’s tagline, what does it mean?
At All Ages Osteopathy, I strive to optimize health by properly aligning the body’s structure and encouraging the natural rhythm of the body’s flow through the principles and practices of osteopathy so that humans trust their bodies inherent wisdom to heal and maintain health. After a few profound experiences in water – in the creek near Boulder, CO where I studied Integrative Physiology, Spanish and Neuroscience at the University of Colorado, in the lakes near Parker, CO where I studied allopathic medicine and osteopathy at Rocky Vista University, and in the ocean near Olympia, WA where I did my residency program at St. Peter Family Medicine - I felt called to study the intrinsic tides of the human body, an approach to medicine that ensures long-lasting benefits.
In Eastern medicine philosophy, everything comes from five elements: earth, water, fire, air, and ether. Commonly the Western medicine approach focuses on fire element: overcoming the body’s philosology with a surgery or pharmaceutical to demand a particular outcome from the body. While this is absolutely necessary sometimes, as is the fire element itself, I believe it can to overused.
The body is made up primarily of water, and thus I like to use the element of water when helping someone to reach their highest potential. There is a fluid wave present in our body, much like the tide of the ocean, that flows in and out all throughout the body. Just as water bears life, this tide is our self-healing and self-regulating mechanism. It flows at its own rate, different from our heart rate or our breathing rate; it is its own phenomenon. By ensuring that the tide is flowing equally and symmetrically through all areas of the body, the body is able to obtain homeostasis, and ultimately vitality. To me, optimizing the vitality of a patient is true bliss and it was by listening to and ‘riding' this internal tide that got us there.
