Taking a sip of tap water can potentially expose someone to a dose of contaminants that are linked to cancer, hormone disruption, and potential nerve damage. How does this water pass legally? Federal water safety standards have not been updated in more than fifty years! The science that tells us these contaminants are bad has not caught up with the US governing agency, the EPA, to enforce changes in the US’s drinking water.

This is why, at All Ages Osteopathy, we suggest filtering your water. There are a ton of water filters out there, and the science of water filtration gets pretty nuanced, We like, and both personally use, a Berkey Water Filter.

Berkey water filters are an economical, easy way to not only filter your water but to purify it! Berkey water systems reduce contaminants  commonly found in tap water such as chlorine, bacteria, viruses, pesticides, heavy metals, and pharmaceuticals. 

How does it do this? Berkey uses a 3-step process: 

1. Microfiltration happens through the tiny microtubules in the Berkey filter. 

2. Adsorption works by filtering out virus molecules by not letting them pass through the filter via an electrostatic charge. 

3. Absorption takes place through ion exchange in the filter. Good minerals that the body needs stay in the water. Bad minerals such as aluminum and chloride are filtered out.

The Berkey set up is easy, affordable and does not involve electricity. The filters can actually last up to several years (depending on how often used).
